Tahukah Anda bahwa kata "do" punya kekhususan tersendiri? Dalam Bahasa Inggris "do" memiliki 4 fungsi yang berbeda. Do bisa berfungsi sebagai auxiliary, function verb, verb-substitute, atau full verb sebagaimana dicontohkan berikut:
(a) do sebagai auxiliary
Do you often go to the movies?
Do come to see us.
Yes, he does look like his brother.
I didn't finish the job.
(b) do sebagai function verb
He liked it but I didn't.
I go there frequently, do you?
(c) do sebagai verb-substitute
I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
The child used to behave better than he does now.
(d) do sebagai full verb
He does a great deal for other people.
How do you do?
That will do for now, but we must do better tomorrow.
